Rabbi Shelley Kovar Becker has served several congregations in the Reform movement of Judaism. At every service she leads, she seeks to create an oasis of sanctuary, of solace and comfort through prayer and music, to help congregants put the mundane aside and separate the profane, the everyday, from the holy.
While utilizing classic commentary and explanation of Torah, she delights in exploring and adding women's voices to our understanding of our tradition.
Rabbi Becker has a Masters Degree in Education - Specialist in Hebrew Culture from New York University and a Masters Degree in Hebrew Literature and Ordination from Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion, the seminary of Reform Judaism. She has a B.A. in history from Quinnipiac College, Hamden, CT, and was a voice major at the High School of Music and Art in New York City.
Rabbi Becker was an active lay leader, serving as Sisterhood president, board member and first vice president of a New York City congregation before beginning her studies for the rabbinate. Rabbi Becker is married to Marty; they live in Manhattan.
As the Rabbi of Gishrei Shalom she looks forward to meeting you.
