The congregation has an active youth group affiliated with NFTY. If you are a Jewish high school student or 8th grader you are invited to participate, even if you don't belong to GSJC.
The GSJC youth group, JUICY, is affiliated with NFTY-NE, the Northeast region of the National Federation of Temple Youth. Numerous opportunities, such as dances and religious education, are available to travel to NFTY events in Massachusetts, upstate New York, Maine and New Hampshire to name a few.
Tikkun-olam , repairing the world, is a primary JUICY activity. JUICY-ites organize and run several community service fundraisers annually, raising money for those in need here and around the world. JUICY-ites lead Shabat services in the the Hebrew School, and as lay leaders of themed service, filled with new melodies for prayers, and interesting quotes and thoughts on selected topics. Look for the JUICY Tzedukah box at services, the money raised supports all of JUICY's current mitzvah projects.
Yearly JUICY coordinates the GSJC Chanukah Store and volunteers at various synagogue activities throughout the year. JUICY has also volunteered at many non-profit organizations.
And JUICY-ites have FUN! Outings and adventures have included shul-ins, playing laser tag with other CT youth groups, bowling, pizza parties, and movie nights. All member ideas are discussed and implemented with majority approval. The group is as active as the members make it!
Interested in joining? JUICY is open to all kids of b'nai mitzvah age through high school--you don't have to be a bar or bat mitzvah to join! Come see what JUICY is all about!
